Discovery Bay is linked to the Central District of Hong Kong Island by a dedicated high-speed and high frequency, airconditioned ferry service running 24-hours every day.

The journey time is 25 minutes, and comfort further enhanced with provision of free on-board wi-fi. Discovery Bay also has local ferry services directly linking it to nearby communities such as Silvermine Bay (Mui Wo) and Peng Chau Island.

There are three very frequent separates bus service directly and separately serving:

1)     Tung Chung Town (15 mins away), with spacious modern Plaza shopping, cinema and MTR station. Also the location of the fabulous Ngong Ping  360 Cable Car tourist attractions.

2)     Sunny Bay (10 minutes away)

The closest MTR station, feeding to the whole of the Kowloon, New Territories and Hong Kong Island, and also the interchange for nearby the Disneyland Resort.

3)     Hong Kong International Airport (20 mintues away)

A luxury coach service directly to and from Hong Kong’s airport every 30 minutes, A VIP shuttle service can also be booked directly to and from Discovery Bay. No wonder “DB” is the place of choice for so many aircrew and frequent travelers.

To protect the air quality in the community private cars are not allowed within Discovery Bay. Instead a limited number of private golf carts are  used by those preferring. This is one of the very special characteristics of Discovery Bay, that gives its very individual charm, and adds to the resort feel.

The ownership of a golf cart is hardly necessary in reality though, since the enclave is efficiently served by a comprehensive shuttle bus system serving each individual area. The bus system is also synchronized with arrival and departure of ferries.

Discovery Bay also runs a systems of bookable “Hire Cars” which are essentially community taxis on a fixed fee.

Cycling / biking in recent years, has become hugely popular both for internal commuting and and leisure. All areas have bike racks to accommodate.

At time of publication we await the announcement confirming the limited external taxi service expected to be commencing by 2013, coinciding with the opening of the new “Auberge”  Hotel in Plaza North.
